First, Find Out What Title Record You Actually Have
No paper title does not automatically mean no title in Oklahoma anymore. Service Oklahoma says titles have been issued electronically by default since July 1, 2025, although paper titles are still issued in limited circumstances. If you have a paper Oklahoma title, it generally needs to be properly assigned and notarized for transfer. If the current title is electronic, Service Oklahoma uses Form 718, the Bill of Sale of an Electronic Title, instead of handing over a paper certificate. The seller’s signature on that form is still notarized.
A lien can stop either route. Oklahoma is a title-holding state, so an active lienholder may control the title record. When the Car Leaves, Keep the Plate
Your Oklahoma plate stays with you, not the car. Service Oklahoma assigns plates to people rather than vehicles, so remove yours before the vehicle leaves. The state’s current private-sale guidance confirms that the seller keeps the plate while the buyer uses a transferred or newly issued plate.
If you want Service Oklahoma to record that ownership was assigned, an optional Notice of Transfer of Ownership is available. Filing it records the notice; it does not itself transfer the title.
Tell Us What Actually Failed
Don’t tell us only that the car is “junk.” Tell us what happened to it. A complete car with a failed transmission, keys, and four wheels is a different offer and pickup from one with major collision damage, missing parts, or no way to roll.

Pickup Depends on the Car as It Sits
Free towing is included when a vehicle is purchased, but access still matters. Mention locked steering, missing wheels, soft ground, a narrow gate, a parking structure, a repair shop holding the car, or another vehicle blocking it before pickup is arranged.

What if I don’t have a paper Oklahoma title?

Does hail damage automatically make an Oklahoma car salvage?
No. For vehicles subject to Oklahoma’s insurance-loss salvage rules, Service Oklahoma says only damage affecting roadworthiness is included in the damage calculation.
